Considering that Depoe Bay is the “world’s smallest natural harbor” it’s pretty surprising to find that the Depoe Bay Chamber of Commerce website lists no fewer than nine separate licensed and certified charter boat services for either pleasure, fishing or whale watching. Get up close and personal with these rare ocean giants for an experience you will never forget. Or bring home a whopper…or a good tale about the one that got away. If you are not inclined to leave land, there is also The Depoe Bay Whale Center on the ocean side of HWY 101 right in the middle of town – or any one of several viewing areas along the seawall.

An inspiringly beautiful and awesome sight at anytime, but especially when offshore storm threaten. During winter storms, ocean waves slam with a thundering roar into a hollow rock formation shaped like a huge punch bowl. The surf churns, foams, and swirls as it mixes violently. The punch bowl was probably created by the collapse of the roof over two sea caves, then shaped by wave action. The park is a popular whale watching site and displays an intriguing geology. This is a scenic picnic spot atop the undulating rocky shoreline. Don’t forget to explore the tidepools at low tide. There is no fee to use this park.

A miraculous and rugged, basalt-rimmed bay and a great place to watch wild surf action on the rocky spurs. This splendid panoramic viewpoint presents a good opportunity to see migrating and resident gray whales. Take your binoculars – this is one of the best sites in Oregon to see ocean-going birds (like shearwaters, jaegers, albatrosses, grebes, pelicans, loons, oystercatchers and murrelets). In 1910, an explosion sank the J. Marhoffer, and you can see the ship’s boiler at low-tide. At low tide, a short, rough trail takes you down to some of Oregon’s richest tide pools. There is no fee to use this park.
